Provides technical and administrative supervision to technologists performing pulmonary function examinations or analysis in a small to moderate sized hospital or on a shift.
Essential Job Functions
Prepares work schedules, assigns work, and rotates technologists to various shifts and jobs to meet workload demands; evaluates work performance and recommends resolution of personnel problems.
Recommends new and revised operational policies and procedures, and supervises their implementation.
Assists a Chief, Pulmonary Physiology Laboratoryor a physician in the development of in-service training programs by preparing instructional materials and participating in training classes by lecture and demonstration, as assigned.
Tests or directs the testing of new equipment, prepares written evaluations, and makes recommendations for its acquisition; prepares written instructions on the application and operation of new equipment for the departmental procedure manual.
Assigns and directly supervises the performance of special patient tests requested by physicians and confers with the physicians on the interpretation and validity of test results, particularly with respect to the patient's participative effort.
Evaluates existing equipment and procedures for accuracy and reliability and suggests modifications as needed to meet established standards.
Supervises a program of quality control by ensuring that periodic blood and expired air samples are checked by precise analysis in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.
Assists a Chief,Pulmonary Physiology Laboratoryor a physician in the administration of student training programs involving affiliated public schools and community career organizations by rotating student work assignments in accordance with program requirements, monitoring student performance, and making periodic reports on their progress.
Prepares reports and maintains records of contracted laboratory services.
Monitors work performed by contract staff in accordance with quality assurance standards.
Requirements SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:
Four (4) years of experience performing respiratory and/or pulmonary procedures, including two (2) years of experience performing at the level of Pulmonary Physiology Technician II* or above. A Bachelor's degree** with two or more courses in Quantitative Analysis, Chemistry, or Mathematics, will be accepted for one year of pulmonary physiology laboratory experience.In order to qualify for the requirements, you must attach a proof of the registration with your application at the time of filing or within 15 days of filing online.LICENSE:
A current California State Respiratory Care Practitioner's License** issued by the Respiratory Care Board of California.
Current certification in Basic Life Support** (BLS).
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.PHYSICAL CLASS II - Light:
Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. :*Pulmonary Physiology Technologist II in the County of Los Angeles is defined as:
Performs a full range of diagnostic pulmonary function examinations to measure the pulmonary physiological capacities of adult and pediatric patients in inpatient and outpatient settings.**

Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience based on application information and desirable qualifications weighted at 100%.Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination to be added onto the eligibleregister. ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION: Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be added to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.
