The Fresno County Department of Public Health is offering a rewarding supervisory employment opportunity for Public Health Nurses interested in expanding their careers as a Supervising Public Health Nurse.
The Public Health Nurse classification series is primarily oriented to the provision of community nursing services. These services focus upon concepts of prevention, early intervention, communicable disease investigation, case management, and health education. Services may be delivered within the department, in homes, clinics, schools, and by liaison agreements, with other agencies or organizations. Services include: assessment of individual, family, or community health status; referral to appropriate organizations for treatment; demonstration and teaching of health concepts to individuals and groups; mobilizing of community resources to provide for continuity of client care between acute and extended care facilities and the home.
The Supervising Public Health Nurse classification is the full supervisory classification in the Public Health Nurse series. Successful candidates will be responsible for interviewing, selecting, training, assigning, directing, monitoring, evaluating, promoting staff and disciplining staff when necessary. Additionally, based on program need, incumbents may provide direct client care.
There are two immediate vacancies in the Public Health Nursing Division. One of the vacancies is housed in Fresno supervising the Child Health and Disability and the Healthcare for Children in Foster care programs. The second vacancy is housed in Selma supervising the Nurse Family Partnership home visitation program and nurses in the In Home Support Services/APS programs.
Positions in this classification are in Medical Group III - Heavy Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require heavy physical effort using arms, legs, back and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) over 25 pounds. Generally, considerable bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved. Physical stamina is usually required and explosive strength using bursts of energy may be required, depending upon specific position assignments.
