Tacoma Public Utilities is seekingskilled Civil 3D drafters. We are looking for highlymotivated people looking to work on a variety ofchallenging andexciting projects such as dams, fish hatcheries, water main and infrastructurereplacement,and a variety of interagency projects.

The ideal candidate is reliable, hard working and canwork independentlyor as part of a team. A successful Tech can learn quickly, work autonomously, and is not afraid to ask questions.

Responsibilities include:
  • Perform computer-aided drafting for civil and mechanical drawings in Civil 3D;
  • Provide quality-check and oversight on as-built drawings as provided by the engineering staff;
  • Maintain GIS data integrity;
  • Electronically record data on sectional maps;
  • Prepare engineering drawings; reduce engineering data and computations of estimate and quantities;
  • Participate in various field studies; analyze information and prepare reports of findings;
  • Perform on-site work verification for conformity to specifications of materials and installations;
  • Perform mathematical computations from field notes, tabulate statistics, and draw graphs and charts showing trends and comparisons;
  • Provide public information concerning services, andresearch property information.


  • Graduation from high school or equivalent;
  • 2+ years of experience in sub-professional engineering related work using Civil 3D;
  • Completion of a recognized engineering technology vocational education program which includes computer-aided drafting training in Civil 3D; or, one-year relevant college-level engineering course work utilizing Civil 3D. (Two-years of experience are equivalent to one year of education.)
  • Valid Driver's license.
