The City of Independence, Missouri (pop 121,000), is seeking a progressive, engaging professional manager to be its Chief Human Resources Officer. The Chief Human Resources Officer directs the City’s human resource functions, serves as an internal consultant to City departments and is part of a team of forward-thinking leaders committed to pushing boundaries to create real change. The City employs over 1,100 staff and has an annual budget of $322 million. The Chief Human Resource Officer reports to the Director of Finance and Administration and oversees five direct reports and an annual operating budget of approximately $600,000.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in human resources, public administration, business administration or closely related field and ten years of progressive experience in human resources, including five years of supervisory or management experience. Equivalent education and experience will be considered. Qualified candidates must demonstrate human resource experience in areas such as classification and compensation, benefits administration, staffing and workforce planning, employee training and development, managing organizational change and human resource policy administration. Society of Human Resource Management or comparable professional certification desired. Experience working in a union environment preferred.
The 2019 pay range is $90,000 to $135,000 with an anticipated starting salary of up to $118,000 depending on qualifications. The City also offers a robust benefit program and participation in the State of Missouri LAGERS defined benefit retirement program. Relocation negotiable.
