Full Time Human and Social Services Internship

Job Description

About Our Job
The Department of Human Services is currently accepting applications for the 2019 -2020 social work field placement program. The Internship is intended for college students who are exploring career fields and whose degree requires an internship. These internships will be working with a task or field supervisor, and students will have the opportunity to learn how our Social Caseworkers engage and support children and families within the community. The internship is flexible with hours based on the student's school schedule.

Human Services has field placement opportunities in the Child Welfare Division:

The Student Internship Program at Denver Department of Human Services (DDHS) provides an established educational environment to prepare students to become effective, knowledgeable individuals committed to working with the most vulnerable populations. The various components within the Child Welfare Division work collaboratively to provide opportunities for students to become familiar with the Child Welfare System and its impact on families and children.

The Denver County Child Welfare Division is committed to providing a rich, educational experience for students to observe and eventually participate in the day-to-day work of Caseworkers engaging with families. As an intern, the student will have the opportunity to shadow caseworkers managing caseloads, conducting home visits, preparing for and attending court, interviewing adults and children, attending and participating in internal and external meetings related to parents and/or children etc. This experience will also allow students the opportunity to develop and/or enhance their skills in assessing and documenting comprehensive reports.

DDHS is a diverse agency, working in and around the City and County of Denver, providing services to a diverse population. Denver County Child Welfare Division is comprised of Ongoing, Youth and Intake Sections comprised of approximately 20 units. Each of these sections functions with support from other areas including Kinship Care, Community Services, Prevention Services, Foster Care, CORE Services, V.O.I.C.E.S., and others.

Additionally, we have a 360 Section working from the concept of "one family, one team." A 360-Unit includes caseworkers providing services through a generalist case management approach, Intake/Investigation, On-going Child Protection, Youth Services all in one unit. This section is located at our Denver satellite office.

Internships are typically assigned through the educational facility's academic year; however, the time frame will depend on the availability of positions and the number of internship hours required for a student to obtain a degree. Internship positions are available to qualified individuals enrolled in a social work program or a related field requiring a field placement.
