DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES
The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services (DHS) is the second largest health system in the nation, providing compassionate, quality care through its integrated system of hospitals and community-based clinics. Assessment/Reassessment:
An ongoing process which is continuous for the duration of the patient's stay.

Interviews patient and other individuals to collect information.

Observes physical condition including physically examining the patient.

Identifies economic, educational, and cultural barriers; patient values and beliefs; spiritual influences; and age specific and biophysical needs according to accepted standards of practice.

Reviewsall available information, including medicalrecords, patient history, and other documentation.

Documents all findings and observations.

Initiates reassessment of patients as necessary when a patient is currently or potentially at physiologic, psychological, and psychosocial risk.

Recognizes deviations from baseline and interprets subtle changes in a patient's condition.

Planning:
Formulates nursing care plans based upon assessmentand in accordance with provider orders, procedures and/or protocols.

Identifies nursing care objectives.

Prioritizes patient care needs and activities as a member of an interdisciplinary patient care team.

Requirements
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:
1. A license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

-AND-

2. Current certification issued by the American Heart Association's Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) Program.

-AND-

3. A fully executed Michael D. Antonovich Registered Nurse Service Scholarship Agreement processed through the DHS Contract and Grants Division, reflecting that you are a recipient of the grant.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQIREMENTS:
A current active license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Please ensure the License and Certification Section of the required license(s), the number(s), date(s) of issue, dte(s) of expiration and the name(s) of the issuing agency for the required license as specified in the Selection Requirements. The required license(s) and certification(s) MUST be current/active, and unrestricted; a conditional, provisional, probationary, or restricted license or certification will NOT be accepted.

Applicants must attach a legible photocopy of their BLS certification to their application at the time of filing or within 15 calendar days from the application filing date. Applications submitted without the required evidence of BLS certification will be rejected.

A valid California Class C Drivers License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

PHYSICAL CLASS:
III- Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

Additional Information
EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of a structured interview which will evaluate Job Preparation and Knowledge of Position, Interpersonal/Oral Communication, Work Skills, Adaptability and Dependability, and Analytical and Decision-Making Ability, weighted at 100%.

Candidates must meet the selection requirements and achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on this examination in order to be placed on the eligible register.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of eligibility.

A person that passes or fails the interview may not complete this examination more than once every twelve (12) months. If you have applied and did not meet the minimum qualifications, you may reapply 30 days from the submission date of the rejected application.

AVAILABLE SHIFT:
Appointees may be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
