About Our Job

The City & County of Denver - Parks & Recreation Department offers Youth Sports programming for kids, ages 3 - 17 years. Our team of devoted Coaches enrich the lives of youth through engagement of sports, learning the fundamentals of numerous sports including Baseball, Basketball, Coach Pitch, T-Ball, Softball, Flag Football, Gymnastics, Tumbling, Cheerleading, Volleyball, Track & Field and Soccer.   • Northeast: Central Park, Green Valley Ranch, Hiawatha Davis Jr, Montbello, St. Charles, Swansea
  • Southwest: Athmar, Barnum, Harvey Park, La Alma, Rude Park, Southwest
  • Southeast: Cook Park, Eisenhower, Harvard Gulch, La Familia, Montclair, Washington Park


Summer Season is just around the corner so we are looking for enthusiastic Assistant Coaches to join our team for Baseball, Softball, T-Ball, Volleyball, Soccer, & Track. We are looking for Coaches to start as early as April when the season begins:
  • T-ball League serves boys and girls ages 3-6 in learning game fundamentals including running bases and good sportsmanship
  • Coach Pitch Leagues serve boys and girls ages 7-8 in learning further game fundamentals with the coaches serving as pitchers. Boys and girl's leagues are separate
  • Baseball Leagues serve boys ages 9-14 in learning all fundamentals and positions of the game of baseball
  • Softball Leagues serve girls ages 9-14 in learning all fundamentals and positions of the game of softball
  • Volleyball & Soccer Leagues serve a variety of ages and skill levels
  • Track Leagues run at East High School and sites on the Northeast District


Summer Assistant Coaches have the following job duties for each league:
  • Serve as a role model for youth in a sports program focused on sportsmanship, fun, skill development and character development
  • Assist with the implementation of fun & creative practice plans for youth ages 3-17 years
  • Commit to 3 hours of helping coach a week per team in season (1 practice and 1 game)
  • Provide and maintain a safe environment for all participants
  • Support program rules, department policies and provide conflict resolution and behavior management when necessary
  • Obtain NYSCA Certification (Coaches Certification)
  • Attend all mandatory trainings and workshops


This is an on-call position which will work no more than 39 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have:
  • A flexible work schedule
  • Knowledge of and/or previous experience playing in one or more of the following sports
    • Baseball
    • Softball
    • Volleyball
    • Soccer
    • Track

  • Licensures/Certification(s): Must be at least 14 years old at time of application. Requires certification in CPR/First Aid within 6 months of hire. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
