About Our Job Denver International Airport is the 20th-busiest airport in the world and the 5th-busiest airport in the United States, serving 61.4 million passengers last year and generating more than $26 billion for the region annually. DEN is the largest and newest commercial airport in the United States and consists of 15 million square feet of built environment. In this position you will provide tactical and strategic leadership with oversight of Construction, Quality Assurance, Material Testing, Engineering Plan Review, Project Controls for DEN facility, and infrastructure projects. You will also scope and ensure that schedules and cost targets are met. You will develop and ensure compliance with all rules and regulations applicable to the City and County of Denver and Denver International Airport. AIM is responsible for various construction projects such as airfield and landside construction, roadway construction, runway rehabilitation, pavement rehabilitation, utility and systems upgrades. This position is responsible for coordinating with the Senior Director of Maintenance and the Senior Director of Sustainability to achieve DEN's Strategic Objectives and operational goals and KPIs. Directs AIM Development unit in such areas as plan review, project management, and aviation engineering. Develops annual and multi-year work plans and strategies to meet business needs. Develops and directs the implementation of goals, objectives, engineering policies, procedures, and work standards to ensure success. Communicates business and work area plans and goals to managers and/or supervisors to secure buy-in. Reviews, approves, and implements recommended changes to plans and leads the development of process and/or operational improvements. Prioritizes and allocates resources to achieve strategies. Utilizes resources to develop or expand services and/or operation. Ensures resources are utilized appropriately and do not exceed the established budget without approval. Creates and administers policies and integrates work group procedures across work areas for consistency. Resolves sensitive, controversial issues by making decisions that are inclusive of multiple perspectives. Represents the division/department in meetings with elected and/or appointed officials and other city entities. Serves as a city representative with a variety of public, business, and community organizations. Fosters collaborative relationships to the benefit of the organization. Reviews and approves performance metrics established by supervisors/managers. Assists staff in the achievement of performance standards while identifying opportunities for continual improvement. Resolves escalated employee or contractor complaints including long-term resolutions in problem areas. Develops and monitors the budget and oversees financial well-being by analyzing cost effectiveness. Directs cost control activities. Coaches, mentors, and challenges staff. Champions continuous improvement, including devising new strategies and new opportunities. Leads staff development initiatives that include training, development and succession planning. Establishes performance expectations and standards for all levels of employees to achieve or exceed performance metrics and prepare them for the future. About You We are looking for a leader with superb business and political acumen, sound understanding of strategic business practices, results driven, has experience working with staff at all levels, and a proven track record of excellent performance within a very complex enterprise. We are also looking for an innovative thinker, with drive and ingenuity to help us achieve DEN's Strategic Plan objectives. In addition, we are looking for someone with the following skills and experience: Construction experience in a airport environment or equivalent Project management experience with $500,000 plus budgets Experience working in a secure environment Experience managing 80 or more projects annually Government and contract management experience Previous leadership or management experience with a large workforce We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture. Experience: Three (3) years of experience supervising licensed engineers or architects. Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements. License/Certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application. Or requires registration as an Architect by the Colorado State Board of Registration at the time of application. Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of probation. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment. FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required. Snow / Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.
