About Our Job This Mountain Parks Utility Worker will perform a wide variety of maintenance duties in support of Denver's 14,000 acres of historic Mountain Parks. These positions develop and practice a wide variety of functions in support of this diverse network of resources - providing them with a strong foundation to make upward moves within the Parks & Recreation Department. (These positions are differentiated from Park Seasonal Laborers which are the entry-level positions to park maintenance.) This position will report to the Morrison Headquarters at 300 Union Avenue, Morrison, CO., and will work an average of 39 hours per week, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. This is a seasonal position that will work for approximately 6 months during the busy season. The incumbent must be willing to work emergency on call hours; weekends and holidays as needed. This position is also eligible for equipment operation pay differential. Skills developed on the job: Working indoors and outdoors (in potentially inclement weather conditions) in Mountain parks grounds, facilities and structures using, maintaining and repairing various hand-powered tools and motorized equipment in a safe and efficient manner Operates a variety of equipment, as needed to support operations Leading by example to show less-seasoned parks workers how to effectively and efficiently complete work tasks Work closely with resident bison herds on an as needed basis by performing round up, herding, emergency fence repairs, and other related duties Infrastructure maintenance on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects including but not limited to: fencing (e.g. large game fencing), asphalt, concrete, trails work, grade work/erosion control, graffiti removal, painting, HVAC equipment cleaning and cleaning of exterior lighting fixtures Interacting with and learning alongside more seasoned park maintenance generalists and/or skilled trades workers to learn and implement best practices in painting, plastering, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and related maintenance work Snow removal operations such as plowing, shoveling, de-icing Various related duties assigned as needed such as trash collection, bathroom maintenance and cleaning, vandalism repair, or other mountain parks operations This is an on-call position which will work no more than 39 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules. About You We are looking for a reliable and driven self-starter looking to develop a well-rounded skill set in park maintenance operations. Our ideal candidates will enjoy working outside, be adept with safety considerations and are eager to demonstrate leadership qualities.
