About Our Job The Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking a Natural Resources Operations Intern to learn from and support the Denver Natural Resources Operation group. This is an internship starting this spring and working on average 20 hour per week. The Denver Natural Resources Operations work to establish and maintain sustainable and healthy ecosystems (including natural areas, open spaces, mountain parks and waterways) generate well informed and satisfied residents, and construct broad collaborations that make it all happen. Our restored natural area creat important habitats for native plant species and wildlife while providing citizens with ongoing hands-on educational opportunities. All interns work with the City naturalist and the Wildlife Program Administrator to develop and implement their internships. Denver natural Resources Operations interns learn through hands-on experience, what it means to restore and maintain wildlife habitat in a variety of land types including riparian, prairie, and mountain parks. Interns will also be give the opportunity to gain experience in wildlife management for species such as Canada Geese, Prairie Dogs, and Beavers. As an intern you will get to experience the following: Noxious weed management Wildlife management Restoration of prairie, riparian areas, and wetlands Monitor managed areas Working in natural areas is physically demanding. Interns must be able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions. Terrain will vary from riparian areas, wetlands, prairie, foothills, and mountains. About You Our ideal intern will have/be: Current enrollment in bachelors program specific to Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Ecology, or a closely related Want to advance their career in natural resources management Knowledge of natural vegetation and wildlife monitoring in Colorado Not afraid to get down in the weeds Must like the outdoors and working outdoors will need to provide their own transportation to the field when vehicles are not available for reservation We realize your time is valuable so please only apply if you have at least the following required minimum qualifications: Current enrollment in a college program leading to a bachelor's degree related to the field specific to the department and/or work assignment.
